In Southern India, a passenger train collides with another, killing 13 and injuring 25.

HYDERABAD, INDIA—A passenger train collided with another in southern India on Sunday, killing 13 and injuring 25, according to officials.

According to senior railway officer Saurab Prasad, the inbound train collided with a parked train in Andhra Pradesh's Vizianagaram district, causing the derailment of at least three rail cars.

According to Mr. Prasad, a preliminary inquiry determined that the reason was human mistake.

Train accidents are widespread in India, and they are frequently attributed to human mistake or antiquated signaling equipment.

More than 280 people were murdered in one of the country's bloodiest rail catastrophes in decades in June, when two passenger trains collided in eastern India.

Every day, almost 12 million people ride 14,000 trains across India, covering 64,000 kilometers (40,000 miles) of track.
