7.3-magnitude earthquake strikes Abra

A 7.3-magnitude earthquake struck the Philippines on Wednesday morning, July 27.

Recorded at a depth of 25 kilometers, the quake occurred at 8:43 a.m. with an epicenter in Abra province.

According to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology, Intensity IV was felt in Quezon City. It was also felt in other parts of Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon.

Aftershocks are expected, the agency said.

The earthquake occured near the heritage city of Vigan, Ilocos Sur with damage to structures including historic houses, the Vigan Cathedral and Bantay Bell Tower according to initial reports by netizens on social media.
