Two Children Are Hurt by a Drone Attack in Ukraine, Russia's Voronezh

VORONEZH, Russia—A 6-year-old boy and a little girl were injured by a Ukrainian drone strike on Tuesday, prompting the declaration of a state of emergency in the southern Russian city, according to authorities.

According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, three further drones were intercepted and five Ukrainian drones were destroyed by air defenses over the Voronezh region. It stated that four further drones were detected over the Belgorod area.

In one of the assaults, Yelena Fedyainova's 6-year-old son sustained injuries. She stated that the drones attacked at about 2:30 a.m. (2330 GMT Monday) and shattered her apartment's glass.

“The was a blow and a flash,” Ms. Fedyainova told reporters. “I grabbed the child—there were shards everywhere and smoke.”

According to police, the same incident also injured a girl who was around ten years old.

Approximately 250 kilometers (155 miles) separate Voronezh, a city home to over a million people, from the Ukrainian border. Vadim Kstenin, the mayor of the city, said that a state of emergency had been imposed in the region to address the effects of the assault.

Ukraine did not immediately respond.

According to Russian media, Russia maintains an air base close to the city where some Sukhoi Su-34 bombers are stationed. Russian fighter-bomber aircraft are frequently used in airstrikes against Ukraine.

At least fifteen explosions were heard close to the air base, and some drone wreckage landed adjacent onto an apartment building, according to a Telegram post from the Russian news source Shot.
