At least 15 people were killed in the Prague University shooting, and the shooter has been 'eliminated,' according to police.

PRAGUE—A shooter murdered at least 15 people and injured at least 24 others before being "eliminated" at a Prague university on Thursday, according to police and emergency services.

Soon after 3 p.m., Czech police responded to the gunshot at Charles University's faculty of arts building in Jan Palach Square. The shooter's father, a faculty student, was discovered dead early Thursday, according to police.

Police cordoned off the square and the surrounding area, which is in a bustling section of town with a major thoroughfare carrying tourists to Old Town Square.

Several ambulances and police cars with bright lights queued up alongside the building, preceded by sirens, according to a live broadcast on Czech TV.

According to one eyewitness, they stepped off the tram near the school and "suddenly I heard shooting."

According to an email sent to workers and kids, the shooter was in one of the buildings.

“Don’t go anywhere, if you’re in the offices, lock them and place furniture in front of the door, turn off the lights,” the email said.

One X user shared a photo of a group of pupils huddled on a building ledge.

Prime Minister Petr Fiala stated on X that he had postponed his trip to the east of the nation and was on his way to Prague.
