In Egypt, a deadly bus crash with a truck kills 17 people and injures 29 more.

CAIRO—A passenger bus collided with a slow-moving vehicle on a highway in southwestern Egypt on Thursday, killing at least 17 people, according to officials and local media.

According to the governor of New Valley province, Mohamed el-Zamlout, the collision occurred late Wednesday.

According to the Health Ministry, 29 people were injured, and 26 ambulances were summoned to the accident scene to transport casualties to surrounding hospitals and morgues. It was unclear who was injured or killed outside the bus, and authorities did not comment on what caused the incident.

According to el-Shorouk, a local newspaper, an anonymous official stated that the bus rammed into the vehicle, which was "nearly parking" on the road. It was alleged that the bus was transporting 45 people on its way to Cairo, Egypt's capital.

Every year, hundreds of people are killed in road accidents in Egypt, which has a dismal record of transportation safety. The majority of the collisions are caused by speeding, poor road conditions, or lax enforcement of traffic regulations.
