In preparation for a hypothetical cage confrontation with Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg, Twitter owner Elon Musk has agreed to take MMA lessons from renowned UFC fighter Georges St-Pierre.
Musk, 51, said last week during a Twitter exchange that he would be open to competing against Zuckerberg in cage combat. The 31-year-old Zuckerberg accepted the challenge and asked Musk to just pick the field on which they would engage in combat. Zuckerberg has practiced ju-jitsu and recently took home gold and silver medals in his first ju-jitsu competition.
Musk's Twitter followers were eager to point out Zuckerberg's skill in combat, but unfazed, Musk promised to take their fight to the Vegas Octagon.
St-Pierre got in and volunteered to support Musk against his younger and more experienced rival as the discussion of the Musk vs. Zuckerberg bout became more detailed and serious.
“@elonmusk I’m a huge fan of yours and it would be an absolute honor to help you and be your training partner for the challenge against Zuckerberg,” St-Pierre said in a Twitter post on June 24.
Musk might benefit from St-Pierre's experience if Zuckerberg and Musk decide to forward with the fight.
St-Pierre has won 26 of his 28 UFC fights, including a 13-fight winning run, and holds belts in the welterweight and middleweight weight classes.
“Georges has cemented his legacy as one of the pound-for-pound greatest fighters ever,” UFC president Dana White said following St-Pierre’s retirement in 2019. “He beat all the top guys during his welterweight title reign and even went up a weight class to win the middleweight championship. He spent years as one of the biggest names in MMA and remains one of the best ambassadors for the sport.”
Musk finally responded to St-Pierre’s offer on Tuesday morning. “Ok, let’s do it,” Musk tweeted of St-Pierre’s offer.
