UK Prime Minister Sunak will be hosted by Biden at the White House to discuss AI, economic security, and Ukraine.

On Thursday, Prime Minister Rishi Sunak of the United Kingdom will be welcomed by President Joe Biden at the White House. According to the White House, the two leaders will talk about a range of world concerns during their discussion, including economic cooperation, support for Ukraine, and the transition to sustainable energy.

The subject of who would lead NATO this year and the possible hazards of artificial intelligence (AI) are both anticipated to be on the agenda.

The main subjects of conversation will be Russia and Ukraine, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre told reporters on June 7.
“The president and the prime minister will also discuss the joint U.S.-U.K. leadership on critical and emerging technologies, as well as our work to strengthen our economic security,” she added.

There will be no discussion of reopening post-Brexit trade discussions during this visit; instead, the two leaders will concentrate on deepening their economic connections.

Sunak will not pursue a free trade deal with the United States at his meeting with Biden, according to a spokeswoman for Number 10, but he will talk about a few current trade impediments.

“As we’ve confirmed previously, we are not seeking to pursue a free trade deal with the U.S. currently. We know that no trade partnership is more important than one we have with the U.S., it’s our largest trading partner,” the spokesperson told reporters. “We are pursuing targeted trade outcomes to break down the few barriers that exist in U.K.-U.S. trade.”

The president will see Sunak for the fourth time this year at this time. Both leaders had previously met for the AUKUS trilateral security agreement in San Diego in March, in April in Belfast, Northern Ireland, and in May at the G-7 summit in Hiroshima.

“They will also review developments in Northern Ireland as part of their shared commitment to preserving the gains of the Belfast/Good Friday Agreement,” Jean-Pierre said.
