Budapest, Hungary - Dozens of automobiles crashed in a pileup in Hungary on Saturday, injuring several people and putting several vehicles on fire.
The crash, which included five tractor-trailers and 37 other cars, happened on the M1 motorway about 15 miles (25 kilometers) west of Budapest, Hungary's capital, according to police.
According to authorities, the pileup caused 19 automobiles to catch fire and resulted in 36 injuries, one of which was life-threatening and 13 of which were serious.
The flames had been contained, according to Hungary's National Directorate for Disaster Protection, and four rescue helicopters, as well as fire and rescue crews from various adjacent cities, had arrived at the scene to treat the injured.
Officials closed the M1 in both directions while recovery and cleanup efforts continued into the evening.
According to Hungarian TV station M1, national ambulance service spokeswoman Pal Gyorfi declined to speculate on the reason of the tragedy.
The Hungarian Concession Infrastructure Development Plc., which operates Hungary's roadways, stated on Facebook that a localized dust storm may have caused a rapid drop in visibility.
