Cignal wins again; Black Mamba bounces back

Cignal notched its second straight win while Black Mamba Army bounced back with a win in the 2022 Premier Volleyball League (PVL) Invitational Conference at the Filoil Flying V Center on Thursday

The Cignal HD Spikers came back from two sets down to defeat the Choco Mucho Flying Titans, 24-26, 19-25, 25-16, 25-21, 15-11, while the Army Lady Troopers defeated the Petro Gazz Angels in four sets, 25-22, 25-16, 21-25, 25-23.
Ces Molina unleashed 17 points laced with 26 excellent digs to lead Cignal, which improved to 2-0 in the tournament.

Rachel Daquis put up 10 points and 18 digs while Gel Cayuna tossed 32 excellent sets on top of seven points, including four blocks.

Glaudine Troncoso notched 13 markers while Ria Meneses and Roselyn Doria contributed 12 and 11 points, respectively.

Choco Mucho played catchup in the fifth set and got within one, 8-9, following a Des Cheng off the block hit. Cignal created some separation with a 5-2 blast capped by Kat Tolentino's attack error for a 14-10 lead.

Cheng saved one match point for the Titans but an attack error by Isa Molde sealed the win for the HD Spikers.

Kat Tolentino fired a match-high 31 points to pace the Flying Titans (1-1), as Cheng and Molde turned in 14 markers each.

Meanwhile, Jovelyn Gonzaga unloaded 23 points and 23 digs to power the Lady Troopers past the Angels.

Michelle Morente came through with 13 points and 11 digs as Ivy Perez dished out 21 excellent sets laced with 10 points for the Black Mamba Army (1-1).

Down by a point, 20-21, in the fourth set, Black Mamba uncorked a 4-1 spurt capped by a Gonzaga hit to go by two, 24-22. Myla Pablo saved one match point with a kill before Gonzaga finished the match with an attack.

Aiza Maizo-Pontillas finished with 22 points to pace the Angels, who dropped to a 0-2 card.

Pablo punched in 16 while Dianel Cheng tossed 18 excellent sets.
