Three people were killed in an Italian hospital fire.

ROME—Three elderly people were murdered after a fire rushed through a hospital overnight in Tivoli, near Rome, according to Italian media on Saturday.

A fourth corpse was discovered in the San Giovanni Evangelista hospital morgue, however that victim was thought to have perished before the fire broke out soon before 11 p.m. (2200 GMT) on Friday night, according to Italy's Ansa news agency.

The fire department deployed turntable ladders to assist in the evacuation of around 200 individuals from the hospital, including a pregnant lady and many toddlers.

Those who had to be evacuated were transported to hospitals in various regions of Rome for treatment. According to media accounts, the deceased—two men and two women—were aged 76 to 86.

The fire department reported that the fire had been extinguished and that an investigation was underway to determine the cause.
