South Korean military reports that North Korea fired several cruise missiles into the ocean.

According to the South Korean military, North Korea launched six cruise missiles early on Saturday morning into the sea west of the Korean Peninsula.

Since approximately 4 a.m., a number of cruise missiles had been launched. The Joint Chiefs of Staff of South Korea reported that the signals were discovered at Saturday local time (1900 Friday GMT).

Since the unusual arrival of a U.S. nuclear-armed ballistic missile submarine in South Korea earlier this week, Pyongyang has launched two missiles.

It happens while Korean Peninsula tensions are rising.

According to the armies of Japan and South Korea, North Korea launched two ballistic missiles on Wednesday just after the American submarine berthed in Busan.

Since the last time a U.S. nuclear-armed submarine visited South Korea, conversations among the allies about a nuclear response in the case of conflict with the North took place at the same time.

North Korea threatened to launch a nuclear assault on South Korea if American aircraft carriers, bombers, or missile submarines were stationed there on Thursday.

A U.S. soldier fled to the North over the border on Tuesday, but there has been no word on his whereabouts as of yet.

According to American authorities, the American who is being disciplined at home is most likely in North Korean detention, which has put Washington in a new situation of conflict with Pyongyang.
