Finland's Embassy in Moscow Receives Mail that contains Powder

MOSCOW - The Russian Foreign Ministry said Friday that Finland's embassy in Moscow received an envelope containing white powder and sent it and two additional sealed envelopes over to authorities for examination.

According to Maria Zakharova of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, three identical envelopes addressed to the Finnish military attache were discovered in the diplomatic mail. One was opened, and within was found white powder; the other two were left untouched.

“All three envelopes were handed over by the diplomatic mission to Russian law enforcement agencies,” she said.

The incident occurred less than two weeks after Finland, which shares a 1,340-kilometer (830-mile) border with Russia, joined NATO. Finland had been neutral for decades, but applied for membership immediately after Russia moved soldiers into Ukraine in February 2022.
